God sometimes uses my infant son, Zion, to explain things to me. One lesson in particular occurred one afternoon when Zion awoke from his nap. He looked at me as he was awakening, but apparently he was still in sleep mode. When he sat up his back was to me, and he began yelling for me as he always does when he gets up. I laughed a little because I feel he should have remembered that I was sitting right next to him. He should know by now that I’m never far from him. I calmly said, “Here I am, boo boo.” But by this time he was yelling as if he was asking, “Where are you, mommy? I need you.” Because of his loudness he didn’t hear me speak to him, despite the fact that I was literally right behind him. So I spoke again in a calm but slightly louder voice. “Turn around Zi Zi. I’m right here.” He still did not hear me, over all of his yelling. I shook my head in amusement and got louder, this time placing my hand on his back. Then he quickly turned around and leapt into my arms.
Zion’s actions that afternoon were similar to the way we react to God. We find ourselves in certain situations and think we’re alone when we’re not. He is always with us, even to the end of the ages. (Matthew 28:20) He hears our cries. (2 Samuel 22:7)He comforts us. (Isaiah 40:1) So calm down, be quiet and listen. God is replying to you. And if you’re still uncertain, turn to Him. He is ALWAYS right there!
