Prophets are wonderful people, chosen by the Almighty God. Those in the prophetic ministry hear directly from the Lord and they convey His message to His people. This is one of the gifts Jesus Christ gave to the church (Ephesians 4:11); part of the fivefold ministry. It takes a special relationship with the Lord- a deep dedication- to walk in this ministry.
The pastor of my church is a prophet. My husband and I love our prophet and his wife, who is our Co-Pastor. Not only have they spoken a prophetic Word over our lives but they actually apply the Word of God into their lives. Not everyone practices what they preach BUT THEY DO. Our Pastor and Co-Pastor sincerely and continuously intercede on behalf of the congregation. And talk about unity! I have seen the two of them together several times in the spirit realm, walking arm and arm. It is one thing to appear to be united in front of others but to have God actually reveal them to me in visions in unison; TRUE UNITY!!
I appreciate when God gives our Prophet a Word to relay to us. In fact, I became on fire for the Lord as a result of a message our Prophet gave to me from God. As I grow deeper in my relationship with God I understand that the things spoken by our Prophet are additional blessings and confirmations about things God may have already spoken to me. We all must come to a place where we develop a relationship with God and not JUST depend on a Word from the Prophet or any other form of leadership.
Understand that God is trying to talk TO you also, not just to someone else FOR you. Think about the entire congregation versus one prophet. That is a lot of individual Word to give out! We must seek God for ourselves! I am not, by any means saying not to accept or want a prophetic Word. As I mentioned earlier, my life is forever changed by God using our prophet. I was depressed, hurt, broken and lost until God used not one, but two prophets on New Years Eve 2010 to speak to me. I experienced what Jeremiah felt; fire shut up in my bones! I have never been the same! Hallelujah! I thank God for His prophets.
What I AM saying is this: the Word spoken to me would have been useless if I had not taken action on it. When we are given a Word, it is for a reason, especially if it related to a gift or a shifting that God wants to come forth. Don’t ignore, feel defeated by or forget about a Word spoken over you and seek another. He placed one before the other for a reason!
God may purposely not give anyone a Word for you because He wants you to seek Him for it. His Word says “Those who seek me will SURELY find me.” (Proverbs 8:17) The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. (Lamentations 3:25) And since it is the Word of God doesn’t it make sense to seek HIM for it? As you seek him DAILY and sometimes MULTIPLE times within a day, you will hear what He wants for you. Words spoken by the prophet will then become confirmations and bonus blessings, not ALL you have from The Lord. Think of it as the prophet adding on a side dish to your meal versus waiting on him/her to give you the main course (plus the side dishes for those who constantly want a prophetic Word. Be honest!) The side dish compliments that main course which was given to you directly from the Head Chef. If you go to the prophet for the main dish, he may not have time to feed you or give you all you are wanting. Then you (your spirit) will go hungry!
Also, keep this in mind: all prophets are NOT from the Lord. False prophets do exist. Many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. (Matt 24:11) Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. (Matt 7:15) There was one on the TV recently, predicting the end of the world for 2012. That is not true. Not only will the world still be here but the people of God will be flourishing like never before! We will be so much in unison, saving souls and living the abundant life that the enemy is sending out his folk to try to stop it. They are falsely “predicting” the world is ending as a distraction to get the people of the Lord of course for what God is about to do. By telling these false dreams, they are trying to get my people to forget me. (Jeremiah 23:27) God says you can spot a false prophet in this way: Deuteronomy 18:21 & 22 (If he speaks something and it does not come true). Not to worry though, God will handle them. False prophets and those who seek their guidance will all be punished for their sins. (Ezekiel 14:10)
Above all else, seek God. When you do, He will give you EVERYTHING YOU NEED. (Luke 12:31) That includes discernment to know when someone is speaking and it is not of Him.
Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged. Psalm 69:32 (=
